Chapter 2 - A Fated Meeting

Chapter 2

The 23rd floor button on the elevator lit as pressed by a young lad. Standing straight with his hands in his pocket, and eyes rarely moving, he patiently waited.
The doors opened as the elevator reached the 23rd floor. He walked out, leaving an impression of a very educated man. His footsteps echoed throughout the corridor until he stopped in front of the third door to the left. The door opened before he could even knock. He enters the room and slowly closed the door.
“I see. Congratulations, looks like you found him. Good work, Henry, you may go” said a man as he finished reading the report handed to him. The room was completely untidy, clothes and crumpled papers scattered, lots of leftover food on the dining table, and the smell of cigarette smoke winning over the scent of the air freshener. The man crumpled the report document then smirked, “Adolph Cole Royale, show me what you’ve got, brother.”
The repeating sound of the doorbell and Edwin knocking on the door wakes Adolph up. He sluggishly stands and walked towards the door. “Hey man, what are you doing here this early?” Adolph asked as he opened the door. Edwin gave him a comic look, glanced at his watch, and laughed. “Man, I think you have to control your intake of alcohol.” He laughs again, “It’s three in the afternoon.”
Adolph looked at the clock to confirm what his best friend just informed him. He tried to recall what happened last night. Upon remembering the strange conversation with the mysterious woman, he asked a question that made Edwin indulge in laughter. “Do you know how I got home?”
Realizing that Edwin isn’t aware of what happened, Adolph assumed that it was just a dream.
“Anyway, Rick called me this morning and reminded me about their concert tonight at Cypher Plaza. Here are your free tickets.” Adolph remained silent as he took the tickets. “See you there. The show starts at eight.” Adolph, still silent, closed the door, turned on the television, sat down and lit a cigarette as the events that happened last night uncomfortably played inside his mind.

“Excuse me Mr. Bartender, do you know what time is it?” asked a young woman, holding a bottle of beer and her eyes almost closed. The bartender shakes his head, “You already asked that question five times little lady, and its starting to annoy me, so for the last time, its quarter to eight.”
“Are you trying to tell me that I’m drunk and I should go home now? Who do you think am I? You’re daughter? I can handle myself! What kind of place is this? You don’t know how to treat your customer right! I’m heading home.” the lady, obviously drunk, shouts and awkwardly walked out.
She finds herself throwing up at a thrash can near the back alley of the bar. Dizzy and dirty, she snaps out of it upon hearing the sound of gunshot. She turned around to find a group of men wearing black suits and carrying guns surrounding one person. She hid behind a pile of garbage and peeked.
“You’re just a bunch of amateurs. If you really wanted to me dead, you should have done so without even showing yourselves to me. And knowing that I work for the Intertwine, you must be aware of my skills.” Adolph said, his gun pointed to the leader of the men surrounding him. Two persons are now lying dead on the concrete floor with blood visible around their foreheads.
“Impressive, as expected for an ace agent of the Intertwine,” the leader spoke calmly. He raised his two hands, and slowly clapped as the other men followed and clapped their hands.
Adolph remained silent, holding his gun tightly, ready for a surprise attack. He cautiously looked around trying to figure out who will be the striker.
Just a few seconds later, the leader quickly drew his gun and points it at Adolph as another man pulls a knife and attacks from behind.
Adolph steps back, then executes a powerful kick to the leader’s hands, causing the gun to fall to the ground. He quickly turned around, pointed his gun to the other aggressor, and pulled the trigger.
Blood bursts out from the man’s forehead. As he fell down, the other men pointed their guns to Adolph’s direction.
The sound of multiple gunshots echoed. The men stopped, silenced and shocked, to see Adolph still standing, unharmed.
He was not alone. Someone else was standing there, behind him, someone incredibly beautiful.
Adolph was silent, trying to understand what happened, he looked behind him and there she is again, the mysterious girl that he met last night. The girl looked back at him, her eyes glowing with beauty.
“Next time, be careful, okay?” The girl smiled sweetly, as the wailing sound of the police cars arriving can be heard from afar.
Adolph looked around him to see that his enemies were now all lying on the floor. “How did you do this?” he asked.
Silence answered his question before Adolph noticed that he was already alone. He remained standing there, thinking deeply about what just happened, who is the mysterious girl and why did she save his life.
Adolph was confused, staring at nothing, he snapped out of it upon hearing a nearby pile of garbage crash into the hard concrete floor. Adolph came to find a drunk young lady, trying to stand, a potential witness to everything that has happened.
Adolph aims his gun to the girl.
